Sgt. A.J. Kellar, 135th MP Company
2004

This was the first portrait I ever created as well as my first attempt at matting and framing. The mat was made in honor of the actual flag that was raised the day he left for Iraq and not lowered or removed until the day he returned, safe and sound. Its’ measurements are 26x30 inches and was done in black and white charcoal medium.

Duke
2005

One of my favorite movie characters growing up, I knew he would be the first of many celebrity planned projects. This piece was developed in charcoal in a 16x20 inch frame and mat that perfectly matches the western theme of his grandiose character.

Blue Ribbon Bea
2007

This is Bea, a former blue ribbon winner. At the time of this portrait, Bea was 29 years old. The challenge was using her current bone structure to get the correct details needed along with an old photograph of her younger years for color flow to create an exact likeness of this once vibrant Morgan. Bea measures at 20x24 inches and was done in pastel medium.

The Love of Lilly
2006

Lilly was a special piece as I personally knew her for most of her life. She was also my first attempt at fur. I quickly realized that I truly enjoyed duplicating an exact likeness of Sue’s sweet, lost “Fur Baby.” Lilly was created with pastels and measures 10x10 inch square. The mat and frame are the perfect compliment to her unique coloring.

  • I envy Karen’s God-given talent to take “real life,” transfer it to a piece of art, while still maintaining the “real life” feel to it, whether it be still life, nature or portraits. Quite a few of her pieces are scattered about our home and I look forward to adding more.

  • My mother surprised my husband and I with one of Karen's portraits for Christmas. It is a portrait of one of my favorite pictures from our honeymoon and we were amazed at how perfect it is. It hangs in a central location of our home and anyone who sees it for the first time comments on how beautiful and unique it is.
